Harran University in Brief

Harran University receives its name from the historical town of Harran which is situated 44 km. southeast of the city of Sanliurfa (Turkey) that housed one of the first universities of the world. This school was known to be an important center attracting many world-famous scholars of the 11th century.


Today's Harran University was established in July 1992 in the city of Sanliurfa, the center of the country's largest development project, namely GAP project, which provides irrigation water and electricity mainly to 11 provinces of the Southeastern Anatolia.


The University has since advanced a great deal by devising undergraduate and graduate programs of study as well as being a leader in scientific research. Today, it employs more than 400 faculty members who provide world-class education to about 12000 students in over 60 major degreee programs. Most of the academic and research services are offered at three main campuses in Sanliurfa, as well as distant campuses in eight nearby towns.
